Angeles police are trying to find a suspect wanted in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday that resulted in the death of a 28-year-old man, authorities said. The victim was identified as John Andrew Yonko, said Rudy Molano, investigator with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Yonko’s city of residence was not immediately known, Molano said. The crash happened around midnight Sunday when a pedestrian — later identified as Yonko — crossed east on Sepulveda Boulevard north of Vanowen Street outside the marked crosswalk, the Los Angeles Police Department said. LAPD Valley Traffic Division Detective William Bustos said Monday that Yonko was struck by a dark-colored four-door sedan traveling north on Sepulveda Boulevard. The car is similar to a Nissan Sentra, Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic, Bustos added. When we look at video, we’ll have more of a definitive description that will hopefully show the vehicle,” Bustos said. “We anticipate there being damage to the front of the hit-and-run vehicle such as the grill, the hood and also possibly a broken windshield. Officials said the collision caused Yonko to hit the roadway, where he was struck by an MTA bus traveling north on Sepulveda Boulevard north of Vanowen Street. There’s an item underneath the bus the pedestrian made contact with.
